Two persons were reported dead after a lorry skidded off the road and crashed into a cafeteria at Galabada, Induruwa along the Colombo - Galle highway around 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday (17), police said.
The deceased have been identified as the owner of the cafeteria and a woman who was walking along the road.
According to the police, the lorry was transporting parcels of a courier service to Colombo from Galle and three individuals including the driver had been in the lorry by the time of the accident. The accident happened when the driver attempted to prevent the lorry from knocking the said woman in front of the cafeteria. The vehicle had skidded off the road and crashed into a telephone pole and into the shop.
The driver of the lorry and his two assistants have also been admitted to the Balapitiya hospital.
The shop next to the cafeteria also has incurred damage due to the accident. Kosgoda police are conducting investigations.
