Four arrested for selling stolen shirts

Badulla Police arrested four suspects who were selling a stock of gents’ shirts stolen from the store of a textile shop located in Badulla, on Sunday (1).

They had been arrested while selling these clothes in the pavement of the Bandarawela Town. It has been revealed that the suspects had stolen shirts worth Rs.1.7 million from this store on several occasions within a few months. Police managed to recover the shirts worth Rs.1.1 million in the possession of the suspects.

“The owner of the shop was not aware of this theft as he had not visited the store in six months,” Police said. The theft was revealed when an employee of the said shop noticed the shirts that were being sold in the pavement belong to their shop and accordingly he had informed his boss.

Police said the arrested persons are aged between 25 and 48 and are residents of Badulla and Bandarawela. Police are conducting investigations to arrest another suspect and a three-wheeler wanted in connection with this incident.
