Woman held over infant’s burial

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of burying her new born child after villagers informed Police of an incident of a dog dragging the body of an infant in Vatryan in Jaffna.

The villagers had reportedly chased away the dog and handed the body over to Police.

Police in their preliminary investigations had discovered that a woman in Vatrayan had buried the body of the infant behind her house and a dog had dug the hole and dragged the body away.

The woman involved in the incident has been arrested for questioning and it has been revealed that she is living alone.

Suspecting that the woman may have delivered the child, Police have referred her to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for a medical examination.

Jaffna Police are investigating.
