Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR), in their attempt to reach excellence in Women’s rugby, yesterday appointed veteran coach and administrator Shen Wei Chang as the Chairman, Women’s High-Performance until May 31, 2024.
Chang represented Trinity College in 1979/80, Havelock SC in 1982 and coached Ananda College, St. Peter’s College, Army SC, Havelock SC and the Sri Lanka Under-19 Team in addition to his services to the game as a reputed referee for over 16 years.
In fact, SLR, in a move to revolutionise Women’s Rugby in the country at provincial and club level have already introduced the 10-A-Side League Tournament for the first time with the participation of four teams – Army SC, CR and FC, Navy SC and Air Force SC.
In addition, this will also be a significant year for the Women’s rugby team as they are set to participate in the Asia Rugby Qualifiers for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France.
SLR Council, headed by President Rizly Illyas has taken up the challenge to revolutionise the activities on a long-term strategic plan and to re-establish all tournaments that were conducted two years ago and to introduce new tournaments especially in the provinces.
