A person who has been sentenced to death on drug charges was arrested while absconding the court for 11 years by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at Attanagalla on Monday (23). The Colombo High Court had convicted him for possessing three grams and 76 milligrams of heroin in 2012. That was 12 years after he was arrested by the PNB in 2000. He was 23-years-old when he was arrested. According to the police, the convict 45-year-old Mohammed Mubarak of Maligawatta had been arrested on Monday while spending a secret life impersonating another person.
Police said that the case against him on drug charges was also conducted in the High Court in absentia as he was missing even until the verdict was delivered. The court had issued open warrants to arrest him. The arrested was to be produced before the court yesterday.
