500,000 jobless youth to be trained this year for foreign jobs

About 500,000 unemployed youth will be trained this year at Government Technical Colleges and Vocational Training Authority Centres countrywide to create skilled youngsters to be employed abroad. Rs. 8,200 million has been allocated by the budget this year in this regard. About 400 Language Training Centres, too, will be set up to equip job seekers with the required language proficiency.

About 1,000 experienced and qualified language instructors will be recruited on contract basis for the programme, Kurunegala Senior Divisional Secretary R.M.Jayaratne said at a youth conference in Kurunegala.
