CDF member arrested over paddy bag theft

The Mahiyangana Police yesterday arrested a Civil Defence Force (CDF) member who broke into the warehouse of the Paddy Marketing Board in Mahiyangana and stole 9,000 empty paddy bags.

The 44 year old suspect is a resident of Hadagana. Police say that 143 of the stolen empty paddy bags were found in the possession of the suspect.

The police said that there is an electric fence near the warehouse to keep away elephants and the CDF member was assigned to guard the fence.

Police say that an empty paddy bag is sold for 100 rupees these days. Police said the stolen paddy bags have been sold by the suspect.
