The entire country is enveloped in spiritual fervour as the nation celebrated yet another Vesak Full Moon Poya Day marking the birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Buddha.
Religious activities including meditation programmes took pride of place on the Vesak Full Moon Day celebrations at all temples and Buddhist monasteries during the Vesak.
Hundreds of Buddhists visited the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone of Hunupitiya Gangaramaya yesterday. President Ranil Wickremesinghe inaugurated the Zone on Wednesday night. A number of programmes were held at the Shangri-La ground adjacent to the Presidential Secretariat to mark the Vesak Full Moon Day. A Bakthi Gee recital by the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and the Civil Security Department was also held. The pandol at the premises attracted many Buddhists.

Over 40 novice monks and 1,200 schoolchildren received stationery items under the Bauddhaloka Sadu Nada Seela Samadhi programme at the Shangri La ground yesterday with the assistance of the Maha Karuna Foundation and the Willing Hearts Foundation of Singapore.
