Southern Province and Western Province emerged men's and women's champions at 47th National Sports Festival (NSF) Tug -O- War competition held at Torrington grounds, Reid Avenue over the week end. It was very well organized by the Sports Ministry and the Depart of the Sports Development and the teams from both men's and women's Southern, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Central, North Central and North Western participated. At the men's event North Western Province team defeated North Central team to win the bronze medal while Southern province defeated Sabaragamuwa team to win third place of the women's event.
At the men's final Southern province team defeated Uva to win the first place and took the gold medal. Western Province defeated Uva Province to clinch the women's title and good medal.
Sports Ministry Director I.P Wijeratne was the chief guest and gave away the awards and medals at the presentation ceremony while Sports Ministry coordinator Subani Udawatte,Tug-O-War National Association Secretary Christy Fernando, Central Province Sports Assistant Director Thushari Samarathunga were also graced this occasion. Tug-O-War Association has an idea to popularise this sport all over the country and they wanted to popularise this sport from school level and Sports Development Department headed by Sports Director General also wanted to give their maximum support to this sport.
