Seasoned Viridu artiste Sarojini Kavirathna will stage an entertaining Viridu event, Raja Viridu Nadagama on June 25 (Sunday) at 6.30pm at the Tower Hall, Maradana.
Sarojini is the daughter of veteran Viridu singer and the first ever radio artiste of Viridu in Sri Lanka, Ananda Kavirathna of Ratnapura.
Raja Viridu Nadagama will showcase various areas of Viridu genre while maintaining entertaining aspects. Viridu Kafringa, Jana Gee Viridu and Kolam Viridu are segments that will produce humour to make the audience burst into laughter, making the evening a memorable one for them.
The show will also involve several guest artistes from the stage drama sphere; Menike Attanayake, Charith Senanayaka, Nissanka Gunasumana, Priyanthi Mangalika, Thushari Bandaranaike, Latha Perera and Siriwardene Soyza who will appear as interesting characters in the society.
Viridu is a traditional Sri Lankan folk music (Jana Gayana) style that involves an improvised poem sung to the beaten melody of a Rabana. Traditional song contests held in villages involve two virindu singers competing through spontaneous verse.
