SLTB to save Rs. 300 Mn annually - Chairman

Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Chairman Lalith De Alwis said yesterday that by purchasing tyres from a local company, they will be able to save Rs.300 million annually. Around 6,000 tyres are required annually for the SLTB. Around Rs. 1200 million is spent per year by the Sri Lanka Transport Board to import the required number of tyres from foreign countries. Accordingly, with the aim of keeping this money in Sri Lanka,   the programme of purchasing tyres from local manufacturers will be implemented.

The Chairman said that the programme will be implemented from July as per the instructions of Minister of Transport, Highways and Minister of Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana with the aim of saving money for the country and giving priority to local manufacturers. He also said that buying tyres from the local manufacturers will cost only Rs. 900 million per year.

De Alwis said that the procurement activities related to placing the order for the new supplier have been completed by now.
