Lawyers’ Collective rebuts Warnakulasuriya’s claims

The Lawyers' Collective, a prominent body of lawyers, is to counter the claims by senior lawyer Hemantha Warnakulasuriya that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) bugged the telephones of a senior judge and hacked his personal email. Warnakulasuriya, a former Secretary and Deputy President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), urged the BASL to take immediate steps to file legal action if the phone tapping allegation was true.

A prominent member of the Lawyers’ Collective and a senior lawyer told the Daily News that Warnakulasuriya's claims were baseless and they could affect the investigations carried out by the CID.

The Lawyers' Collective, he said, was expected to convene a press conference to publicly counter Warnakulasuriya's claims.

A large majority of members of the Lawyers' Collective are members of the BASL, the largest professional body of lawyers.
