Hoarding, selling rice at higher prices: CAA to take action against traders

The public is advised to contact the Consumer Affairs Authority(CAA) on hotline-1977, if they come across any instances where rice hoarding and selling rice in excess of the maximum retail prices stipulated by the government were taking place. It has been revealed that with the government stipulating a maximum retail price for rice, a shortage of rice had been reported from various parts of the country. Therefore, the CAA has commenced raids to nab errant traders who sell rice at higher prices than the maximum retail price established by the government, CAA Chairman Hasitha Thilakarathna said. He further said that stern action will be taken against traders hoarding rice and selling rice at higher prices.
