Two nabbed for demanding ransom

Two suspects who demanded a ransom of Rs 3.5 million over the phone from a person after threatening him with death, were taken into custody by the Mirihana Special Crimes Investigation Unit on Tuesday in Kaduwela and Homagama.

The arrests were made after the victim lodged a complaint with the Deputy Inspector General of Police -Western Province South. He is a resident of Homagama.

The Mirihana Special Crimes Investigation Unit also seized a mobile phone which the suspects had used.

The two suspects, 27 and 31 years, were identified as residents of Kaduwela and Homagama.

They were to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Courts yesterday.

Mirihana Police are conducting further investigations.
