The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has sought an appointment from the President to discuss future actions into recommendations of the report of the Commission appointed by the President to review the Singapore Free Trade Agreement.
GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said the GMOA thanks the President for the brave initiative taken by the President to appoint the committee and to reveal the report contents.
“It is clear that the Singapore FTA cannot continue and it should be halted.The report says no proper permission had been obtained to begin formulating the agreement and no proper Cabinet approval had been obtained to sign the agreement.
The agreement had not been presented to Parliament before signing, no support receives through the agreement for the advancement of Sri Lankan people’s lives, the steps taken by the agreement to protect the rights of Sri Lanka is unsatisfactory and without a National FTA Policy, such an agreement should not have been signed, he said.
Legal action will be taken against all involved in formulating and signing this agreement, the GMOA said.
