Chathurya Nilaweera, Thehan Wijemanne and Dhilvan Herath have been selected to the Sri Lanka Junior Davis Cup team. They will take part in the Junior Davis Cup event by BNP PARIBAS which will be held at the SLTA courts from 4 to 9 March.
The ITF team championships for boys under 16 has 17 countries including Sri Lanka vying for honours where only 2 countries make it to the next stage. The countries include Pacific Oceania, Singapore, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Vietnam.
The Sri Lanka team along with the first reserve Nelaka Dissanayake has been training under the watchful eye of Sudantha Soysa who has been appointed as the non-playing captain. “The boys are working hard and shaping up well for the big event, we hope to make use of our home court advantage as we take on some tough teams in the event,” stated Soysa who himself was a top tennis player in the past.
