Paola Bethmage, a daughter of Sri Lankan parents who reside in the UK has set up an English language programme for children and school leavers from rural communities in Sri Lanka through the Foundation of Goodness.

She is also an executive committee member of the Association of Professional Sri Lankan’s in the UK. Paola graduated with a Bachelors in HR with Law and a Masters in International Management from the University of Northampton, UK. She is currently on sabbatical leave from the London Business School in London where she works as a Programme Manager.

Kushil Gunasekara, Founder of the Foundation of Goodness is keen on empowering the youth from rural communities to improve on their English language skills.

The children in Seenigama and nearby areas are already benefiting from the English language programme implemented by Paola. In the near future, through the Foundation of Goodness she will be expanding this programme in other rural areas in the North and East of Sri Lanka.

Paola describes her experience so far, "The children who attend the English classes at the Seenigama and Udumulla centres are motivated and they are keen learners. One area that I am focusing on through this new programme is to build their confidence whilst teaching them how to speak in English fluently. Confidence plays a huge role in facilitating this and this programme entails several confidence building exercises which the teachers can use to create a more interactive and engaging class." Staff and parents appreciate her dedication and give their best support in order for Paola to fulfil her efforts at the Foundation of Goodness.
