Facelift for Mamandalawewa

The Mamandalawewa will be rehabilitated.

The wewa receives water from the Walawe Ganga and irrigates 8,000 acres of paddy through six other small tanks.

The tank will provide drinking water for the region after its rehabilitation, said Irrigation Engineer D.M.A. Deheragoda.

The Mamandalawewa is the largest tank in the Walawe Ganga right bank development area.

It was built in Anuradhapura era and king Mahanaga of Ruhuna is said to have rehabilitated it during his reign.
