Chilli for Hambantota farmers

Officials of the Hambantota District Office of the Inter Province Agriculture Department have launched a programme to cultivate 100,000 chilli plants in pots for the the Yala season. A spokesman for the office said two hybrid varieties of chilli, MICH HY 1 and MICH MY 2, will be grown under this programme in home gardens.

Agriculture Officer G.G. Wimalasiri said a good income can be earned by selling the green chilli. Farmers of Bandagiriya, Beralihela, Lunama, Mayurapura, Kaltota, Ambalantota and Weerawila will grow the plants.
