Thirty-six-percent drop in Colombo’s fatal accidents

The number of fatal motor accidents in Colombo during the first six months of this year had shown a 36-percent decrease in comparison to the corresponding time period, last year.

Other type of motor accidents in the city had also shown a 21-percent decrease during the same period, Colombo Traffic Police data revealed.

The number of fatal motor accidents recorded in Colombo during the first six months of this year had been 16 compared to the 28 accidents recorded during the corresponding period, last year.

Other types of motor accidents reported in Colombo during the first six months of this year had been 1,737 compared to the 2,201 accidents recorded during the corresponding time period, last year. The number of drunken drivers arrested in the city during the first six months was 2,736 and, this was, however, a sharp increase than the 2,549 drunken drivers detected during the corresponding period, last year.
