President Maithripala Sirisena said that priority should be given to people-friendly innovations in the science and technology sector. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 'Shilpa Sena Exposition’ at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall last evening. The Shilpa Sena exposition was organised by the Science, Technology and Research Ministry to promote science and technology to enhance its contribution to the economic growth of the country under the theme ‘Technology Revolution’.

The President observed that the country was enriched with enough numbers of educated people with knowledge of science and technology. However, it was important to ensure that these educated people devoted their scientific knowledge for the optimum benefit of society and the country.

The President pointed out that the science, technology and research fields should be strengthened and facilities should be given to that field in accordance with national development priorities. He argued that educationists are duty bound to produce curricula based on science, technology and research so as to cater to the requirements of the global economy.

“Providing technological and scientific education to the young generation will contribute to resolving unemployment. Besides, our young generation will be able to engage with the international job market. By this means, Sri Lanka’s sons and daughters will enter the international job market with pride,” he added.

Expositions such as the Shilpa Sena will pave the way to channelling future generations toward the science and technology sector, he noted.

Science Technology and Research Non Cabinet Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe and State Minister Eran Wickremaratne and many other state officers participated.
