Woman nabbed while smuggling heroin to son in remand

A woman who attempted to supply 6,550 mgs of heroin to her son who is in Galle Remand Prison was arrested by prison officers and later handed over to the custody of Galle Police. The suspect is 52 and a resident of Metiwala in Telwatte, Ambalangoda.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect had brought a pair of shorts to be given to her son who has been remanded on a drug-related charge. Following examination of the pair of shorts, prison officers had detected the heroin hidden in the hem.

Galle Police Anti-Crime Unit is conducting further investigations.
