End of noise pollution in buses

Road Passenger Transport Authority(NWP) Chairman, Deshan Sampath Warnapura told the ‘Daily News’ that the National Transport Commission has decided to put an end to the noise pollution in passenger buses from January, 2020.

The Chairman said that under the new regulations, both private and State owned buses would be banned from playing loud music.

A volume limit too will be imposed. In a recent survey conducted by the Commission it has been revealed that most of the buses cause immense difficulties to passengers by playing loud music, he added. He further said that it has also been found that songs not suitable to be played in public are played.

The Transport Ministry has recommended a list of songs, which could be played while transporting passengers from January, said the Chairman.
