Insufficient evidence to institute action -AG

Attorney General Dappula de Livera PC informed the CID Director that there was insufficient evidence to proceed against anyone regarding a complaint made over an alleged coup in the wee hours of January 9, 2015, shortly after the Presidential Election.

Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General, State Counsel Ms. Nishara Jayaratne told news media that the Attorney General had informed the CID Director that there is no sufficient evidence to institute legal action against anyone regarding a complaint lodged by the then Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera in this regard. The CID had sought the Attorney General’s advice on its probe into the alleged coup attempt.

On January 13, 2015, former Minister Mangala Samaraweera had lodged a complaint with the CID Director over an alleged coup attempt on January 9 when the results of the 2015-Presidential Election were being announced.
