Democratic Left Front (DLF) Leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara did not change his political party or his policies while some political parties gave up their policies to remain in power, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa was addressing the gathering at the DLF 20th Convention at the Siwali grounds in Ratanapura yesterday (22).
“DLF contribution in the last Presidential Election is immense. We had all the progressive and leftist camps for us under the leadership of Vasudeva Nanayakkara,” Prime Minister Rajapaksa said.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa said that in 1982 presidential election, Nanayakkara became a candidate not to win the election, but to protest against selling off country’s resources to foreign entities.
The Prime Minister said the DLF was with the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and its alliances in the opposition for over 17 years, going through many difficulties. The party should be credited and respected for it, the Premier said.
