Covid-19 unit at Batticaloa Hospital commences

The Batticaloa Teaching Hospital started a section to provide treatment for Coronavirus patients on Friday evening (13) on the direction of the Health Department Ministry.

Batticaloa Government Agent Kalamathy Pathmaraja visited the hospital on Friday and discussed facilities at the hospital with Hospital Director Kalaranjani Kanesalingan.

A suspected Coronavirus patient has been brought to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital from the Kaluwanchikudy Base Hospital yesterday.

He has been an employee in the construction field and had gone home from the Colombo General Hospital where he was admitted in suspicion of having the disease.

A protest was staged near the hospital opposing the transfer of the patient to the Batticaloa Hospital. Army and Special Task Force personnel arrested nine protestors and dispersed others.
