Navy Officer Bids Farewell

The body of a naval officer attached to the Navy Headquarters, who passed away from leptospirosis (rat- fever) while receiving treatment in ICU of Navy General  Hospital in Welisara was cremated today amidst Naval tributes. 
 
 Lieutenant Commander(VNF) D.G. Sunil Bandara Dodamwala (35) who was attached to Naval Headquarters, is a resident of Galenbindunuwewa area and a father of twin babies aged three and a half years. 
 
 Late Lieutenant Commander Dodamwala had been admitted to Navy General Hospital for treatment over an illness on April 18. 'Upon the admission of this officer, doctors had diagnosed that he was infected with Leptospirosis. Although, it has been identified that coronavirus is not the cause for this death, since the prevailing situation in Welisara Naval Complex, the funeral of this officer has been ordered by Judicial Medical Officer-Ragama to be held as a cremation of a dead one caused to COVID-19,' the Navy media stated yesterday. 
 
 Born in Galenbindunuwewa in 1984, Mr. Dodamwala received his education at Galenbindunuwewa Central College as a brilliant student while proving himself to be an outstanding debater and a sportsman in the college.
 
 Enlisted to the Sri Lanka Navy in 2008 as a Sub Lieutenant during the final stage of the war against LTTE Terrorists, he received his initial military training at the Trincomalee Naval Maritime Academy. 
 
He is a graduate of Sabaragamuwa University. Mr. Dodamwala, who was always held in high esteem among his peers and colleagues for his absolute integrity and honesty. He leaves behind his wife, Menaka and two sons.
