Adverse weather claims two

Two persons were buried alive under an earth embankment following days of torrential rains in Ratnapura.

The District Secretariat confirmed that both individuals are residents of Barenduwa and Wewelwatta in Alutpola.

According to police in the area, another child in the Pallama area who was also swept away had survived after falling atop of a house. She has been admitted to the Ratnapura Teaching hospital for treatment.

Many parts of Ratnapura and Balangoda continued to be battered by torrential rains while landslide alerts and flood warnings were given as water levels of the Kalu River continued to rise yesterday.
