Woman gets life sentence

A woman who was found guilty for possessing and peddling 3.6 grams of heroin in 2013, was today sentenced to life imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.

The accused woman was a remand prisoner at the time of the incident and she was arrested during an investigation while she was trying to take heroin concealed in her vagina to smuggle at the Welikada Prison.

The case was taken up before the High Court Judge Pradep Hettiarachchi and he issued the verdict after a lengthy trial and he observed that the prosecution has proved the case beyond reasonable doubts.

Considering the circumstances, The Colombo High Court Judge sentenced her to life imprisonment.
