Over 150 from Jinthupitiya sent for quarantine

More than 150 persons were subjected to quarantine at Jinthupitiya in Colombo 13 on Thursday (2) when a suspected COVID-19 patient was hospitalized from the area.

According to a Government Information Department statement, over 150 people and around 20 families were sent for quarantine to the Kandakadu quarantine center in Batticaloa.

Army Media Spokesperson Brig. Chandana Wickramasinghe said “156 persons will be sent to the Kandakadu quarantine centre. Of the 155 people, 52 are males, 73 females and children below 12, 19 boys and 12 girls.”

In statement, Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe confirmed that there is no risk of COVID-19 spreading from the patient,

who had arrived from India on Thursday (2).

According to sources the passenger who had returned from India, had quarantined for days and had done the PCR test, yet was infected with the virus.

All security measures are in place to control the situation.

154 were taken away from the area for mandatory quarantine after health authorities found that they had maintained contact with a COVID-19 patient.


Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe, said that the COVID-19 patient was hospitalized and there is no risk of COVID-19 spreading to the community from the detected patient

The residents who are from the Jinthupitiya in Colombo 13 were taken away from the area.
