Private sector workers to get 50% of salary till September

 

UPDATE: The Cabinet of Ministers decided to continue the procedure of paying either a 50 percent of the total salary or Rs. 14,500 for private sector workers till September.

Co-cabinet Spokesman Communication Technology, Higher Education, Technology and Innovations and Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said an agreement was reached between the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC), trade unions and the Skills Development, Employment and Labour Relations Ministry with regard to job security and salaries of private sector employees during the time of the COVID -19 crisis. Accordingly, employers had been instructed to allocate and pay wages for the number of days worked based on the basic salary of an employee, while wages for the number of days they did not work are been paid either at Rs.14,500 or at 50% of the basic wage (whichever is higher).

The Cabinet of Ministers decided to continue the procedure of paying either a 50 percent of the total salary or an amount of Rs.14,500 for private sector workers due to COVID-19 pandemic till September this year, Co-cabinet Spokesman Information and Communication Technology, Higher Education, Technology and Innovations Minister Dr Bandula Gunawardena said.

He said addressing the Cabinet briefing held today.
