The Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha yesterday passed a resolution requesting the UNP to appoint Deputy General Secretary Ruwan Wijewardene as the leader of the party.
This resolution was presented at the Pradeshiya Sabaha’s monthly meeting held at the Pradeshiya Sabha yesterday. This resolution was submitted by Opposition leader of the PS Prasanna Sampath (UNP).
The meeting was presided over by PS Chairman Ananda Ganepola (SLPP).The UNP members of the council speaking at the meeting stressed the importance of appointing a leader who can steer the party to the victory at the 2025 General Election.
The PS Opposition leader said that there will be divisions within the party if a person is appointed to lead the party temporarily. Many PS members of the both UNP and SLPP spoke in support of Ruwan Wijewardene and they said that he should be appointed to the post as he had won the blessings of Maha Sangha too.
Chairman Ananda Ganepola of SLPP speaking on the occasion wished Wijewardene success, if he is appointed to the post.The resolution was seconded by Mali Maduwanthi Algama of UNP
