For the first time a game of football was played over here at the Palleklle grounds, between Old boys of Trinity College and St. Peter’s College. This game was played for the Old Trinitians Sports Club challenge trophy. Both teams played good football in all departments of the game. Both teams richly deserved the accolades for putting up a gritty show and for not allowing each other to make a goal scoring game.
Both teams scored a goal each in each half. So, the trophy offered by the OTSC was shared by both teams, so this is going to be an annual affair.
Both teams started with attacking play, with Old Peterites led by M. Nazeem started off well and S. Hiran found him wide open for aside-footed shot into the net. In the following minutes Old Trinitians tried to respond but their attacks did not pay dividends due to superb goal keeping by D.Dulan. In the first half the Old Peterites gave a good display where they were excellent in ball controlling and displayed top class football.
In the second half Old Trinitians forwards challenged the opponents with some good run and pass football, Old Peterites came close to scoring again, but the Old Trinitians led by Sanoj Srinath gave a good display and guided his team to play excellent football which helped Tharka Liyanage to net a superb goal to make the score one all. Old Peterites goal keeper D. Dulan who was excellent between the posts was selected Man of the Match , Old Peterite Niran Fernando who played a good game was the best player and from the Old Trinitians the best players award went to Taraka Liyanage .
The match was played under the patronage of OTSC secretary Dr. Indika Ratnathilake, Manjula Gunasekara refereed and AR 1 was M. Jamldeen and AR 2 S. Ravi and AR 3 J.Jeevanatha.
