Easter attack probe PCOI extended by 3 months

The term of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) to probe into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks has been extended by another three months.

The Presidential Secretariat, issuing a Gazette Extraordinary, said the extension of term is to complete the final report of the PCoI.

The term, which was to expire on September 20, has been extended till December 20. The PCoI was appointed to investigate, inquire into and report on or take necessary actions in relation to the bomb explosions that killed over 250 people in a series of suicide bombings in churches and hotels on April 21, 2019.

Its interim report was handed over to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in December last year. The five-member Commission headed by Court of Appeal Judge Janak de Silva was appointed by former President Maithripala Sirisena on September 21, 2019.
