PNB officers further remanded till Sept. 22

Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage yesterday further remanded till September 22 the nine Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officers who were charged with maintaining links with drug-peddlers. When the matter was taken up, Deputy Solicitor-General Dileepa Peiris, appearing on behalf of the Attorney-General, informed the Magistrate an amount of Rs.505,000 which had been  discovered from the suspects and monies deposited into an account named as production items in the case.

The nine suspects, who were named as suspects by the CID, are Constable Batuwattage Ruwan Pushpakumara, Sergeant Saman Kumara Jayasinghe, Lionel Jayarathne who are presently incarcerated and six others who are currently being interogated on detention orders namely Warnakulasooriyage Udara Chathuranga, Sumedha Weerasinghe, Upali Rathnayake, Nirosh Madusanka de Silva, Ranasinghe Arachchige Don Shanil Appuhami, and Ruwan Alwis. Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris informed the Magistrate that the CID is conducting an investigation regarding the people’s bank account belonged to the suspects.
