Moneragala Wildlife Officers anaesthetised a cow elephant last Friday to prevent her from disturbing them in saving her calf, which had fallen into a well in Ethimale. It was a 10-month-old elephant.

Its mother had attempted to attack the officers who were rescuing the calf with a backhoe. When the attempts to chase her away failed, the wildlife officers anaesthetised the elephant and pull the baby elephant out of the well.

Ten Wildlife Officers participated.
