Rehabilitation work on the Udukuda Moolai Sluice Gate across the Neethai River under the Sangamam Tank project in Akkaraipattu had come to a standstill during the previous regime. This caused much distress to the farming community.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs.9.8. million.

The Federation of Farmers’ Organization under the Sagamam Tank in a letter signed by its president M.I.Kiyabdeen to Minister of Irrigation Chamal Rajapaksa has said that work on the project went on smoothly until the Good Governance Government came to power.

The Federation of Farmers’ Organization president Kiyabdeen in his letter detailed the irregular manner in which work on this project which was envisaged to irrigate over 800 acres came to an abrupt end.

The letter also further states that after having spent over Rs. four million on this project, it was abandoned.

Hence, the Federation of Farmers’ Organization kindly requests the authorities to intervene in this matter to re-commence the construction work which was suspended during the previous regime.
