COVID patients reach 25,410

The total number of COVID-19 positive patients detected in the country has exceeded the 25,000 mark yesterday, Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry stated. Accordingly, the total number of COVID positive cases currently stands at 25,410. Around 19,032 of them have recovered while 6,254 are in hospitals.

The National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said the total number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from Minuwangoda garment factory employees and Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster stands at 21,857. Meanwhile, 14,896 fully-recovered COVID-19 patients from both Minuwangoda (3,059) and fish market (18,798) clusters have been discharged from hospitals. To-date, 124 COVID-19 positive deaths have been reported.

By yesterday morning (3), flight QR 668 from Qatar with 49 passengers, flight UL 554 from Jordan with 284 passengers and flight UL 881 from China with two passengers arrived in Colombo. Likewise, the flight YW 371 from Oman with 54 passengers and the flight AI 281 from India with some passengers are expected to land here within the day (3). They will be referred to Quarantine Centres (QCs), managed by tri-services upon their arrival after formalities at the airport.

As of yesterday morning (3), 6,400 persons in 59 tri service-managed QCs are still in quarantine. Within December 2, 13,423 PCR tests were carried out.
