North Central Governor Maheepala Herath has issued a Gazette notification removing the Chairman of Welikanda Pradeshiya Sabha from his post.
The Governor had issued the Gazette notification after an investigation revealed he was responsible for a number of alleged irregularities.
An investigation conducted by retired High Court Judge Saman Wickremarachchi confirmed that Welikanda PS Chairman Kavindu Abeysuriya should be held responsible for these irregularities.
Accordingly, the Governor using the powers vested in him by the Constitution, has removed the PS Chairman.
