The Sports Ministry presented a cash donation of Rs. 42 million for the development of kabaddi in Sri Lanka and for the betterment of players and coaches who are involved in the sport.

Sri Lanka’s High-Performance Centre has already identified kabaddi as a sport, which could win medals for the country in the future.

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa said that a franchise-based international kabaddi tournament will be conducted in Sri Lanka, similar to India’s IPL T20 Cricket Tournament.

“Kabbadi is more popular among the South Asian regional countries and we have to get involved with them if we are to move forward in the sport,” the Minister added.
