Kos mama’s death anniversary celebrations in Panadura

A programme has been organised to commemorate the 61st death anniversary of Arthur V. Dias, commonly known as “Kos mama” on July 31 in Panadura.

Arthur Vincent Dias was a philanthropist and a social and religious worker in Panadura. Maha Sanga together with residents of the area organise the programme.

He was the last Sinhalese National Hero who participated in the fight staged by the National Leaders including Walisinghe Harischandra, D.B. Jayathilaka, Sir Ponnambalam Ramanathan, T.B. Jayah, F.R. Senanayake, Sir Razik Fareed, Piyadasa Sirisena, and Sri Nissanka Pandit Batuwanthudawa to gain Independence in 1948.

Arthur V. Dias, the pioneer of Amaddyapa Viyaparaya (Anti-liquor Campaign) was sentenced to death by the British Military Court in Panadura when he was found guilty of continuing a battle against the British Government when Robert Chalmers was the British Governor in Ceylon.
