Fire at Kiribathgoda shopping complex doused

A fire had erupted in the ground floor of a three-storied shopping complex located close to the Kiribathgoda town on the Kiribathgoda-Makola road around 8.30 am yesterday (17) morning.

Police and area residents had rescued 12 persons including children who had been trapped inside the shopping complex to safety.

About five persons who were experiencing breathing difficulties due to the smoke had been admitted to hospital.

The fire was doused within several hours using firefighting trucks of the Colombo and Gampaha Municipal Councils.The reason for the fire had not yet been found and an estimate of the

damage caused was to be done. The Kiribathgoda Police are carrying out further investigations.
