Two arrested for attempting to smuggle medical drugs

The Custom Officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today arrested two Indian nationals, who arrived in Sri Lanka, for allegedly attempting to smuggle a stock of medicinal drugs into the country, Deputy Customs Director Sudatta Silva said.

They were arrested at the Arrival Terminal around 1.15 am.

The two Indians had in possession about 10 varieties of medicinal drugs used to treat various illnesses. The stock of medicine had been brought down without the consent of the Health Ministry and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority.
