"No decision yet on banning small arrack bottle"

The government has not taken a final decision on banning 180 ml arrack bottles, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said . He told the Daily News that a recommendation has been made to the Excise Department by the Ministry in this regard.

A decision on banning the 180 ml arrack bottle cannot be taken by the Environment Ministry alone and it has to be supported by several other stakeholders, he pointed out. The main reason in proposing the banning of the 180ml arrack bottle is to prevent environmental pollution due to the discarding of these bottles to the environment after use.
