A special request has been made by Dhamma school teachers to Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to stop private classes on Sunday morning and immediately intervene to reserve Sunday for Dhamma education.
Sisira Kumara, Deputy Principal, Sri Dheerananda Dhamma School, Saranath Buddhist Centre, Gangodawila has made this request on behalf of the Dhamma School Teachers when Minister Gunawardena visited the Buddhist Centre on Sunday (23).
The Dhamma school teachers, citing the low attendance of children to Dhamma schools, said that although there had been discussions in the past regarding the suspension of private classes on Sunday mornings, no final decision had been made in this regard.
Therefore, the Dhamma School teachers especially requested Minister Gunawardena to draw attention of Parliament in this regard and intervene along with the Education Ministry and the Buddha Sasana Ministry in fulfilling the request.
