COVID Transmission in classrooms very low’

Pediatrician Dr. Channa de Silva at the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital in Colombo said that the risk of transmitting COVID from one child to another in school classrooms was very low.

He said that most children get infected with COVID not from school but from the outside and the risk of transmitting the disease from one child to another in the classroom is minimal.

Although the prevalence of COVID may increase among older children, this is not the case now, he said and added that children over 12 can easily access the vaccine free.

He said that if a child has any symptoms such as fever, cold or cough, the parents should first prevent the child from going to school and give them the rest they need and seek medical advice.

He said there was an increase in the number of cases of asthma, hemorrhoids and other chronic illnesses among children, which were once under control, and that dengue and other viral illnesses are spreading along with the common cold and COVID-19.
