Private bus owners’ demand fuel price concession or fare hike

Private bus owners’ associations demand either a fuel price concession or a bus fare hike in view of the latest fuel price increase.

Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association President Gamunu Wijeratne said that they have requested the National Transport Commission to make the annual bus fare revision, scheduled for July 1, in advance in view of the fuel price increase.

“What we request is either to issue us Diesel at the old price or to revise bus fare according to the prevailing cost of fuel,” he commented.

General Secretary of the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association Anjana Priyanjith told the media that they demand the bus fare rate to be increased by at least 35 per cent. He said that the bus fare revision should be effected immediately.
