State banks stable and operating smoothly - Pragathi Bank Employees’ Union

Pragathi Bank Employees’ Union, which represents members of State banks in Sri Lanka, assured that State banks are stable and the operations of State banks are being carried out smoothly contrary to negative social media reports.

President of Pragathi Bank Employees’ Union Nishantha Samarasinghe addressing a media briefing yesterday (15) said all segments of the society and businesses across the country have come under stress owing to the unfolding economic crisis, coupled with rising inflation.

Despite all these external and internal challenges, he said the operations of State banks are happening smoothly.

“We saw reports of a dollar liquidity crunch in Sri Lanka’s banking sector.”

“Earlier, we had issues with regard to finding dollars; however the issue is now settled mainly due to increased Sri Lanka’s foreign worker remittance, coming through official channels to State banks in recent months,” he said.
