Computer Technician arrested for assaulting Policeman

Gampaha Police on Thursday arrested a Computer Technician who had assaulted a Police Officer at the Gampaha Bus Stand and later tried to hit him with a glass bottle.

Police Constable Sameera Deshapriya, the driver of Senior Superintendent of Police Ajith Rohana, Deputy Director of the Katana Police Training College, resides at Oruthota Road in Gampaha was the Police Officer who was assaulted.

The Police Officer had travelled by train from Colombo to Gampaha and when he tried to get off the train, an individual had been standing on the footboard of the train obstructing the movement of passengers. Gampaha Police said that an argument ensued between this individual and the Police Officer.

When the police officer was walking home, subsequent to this incident, the person who had been involved in the argument with him on the footboard of the train, Police said had attacked this particular officer with a glass bottle.

The Police Officer who sustained head injuries was admitted to the Gampaha Hospital and received five stitches on his head. After conducting investigations in this regard, the Police have arrested the suspect who assaulted the 27-year-old Police officer named Suresh Shantha. Police said the suspect was a resident of Pahalagama, Gampaha.
