Sri Lankan Blue Helmets commemorate Int’l Children Day in South Sudan

The Sri Lanka Army extending their intimacy towards the country’s children carried out a series of events to commemorate Interntional Children’s Day held recently with the blessings of Army Commander Lt. General Vikum Liyanage.Similarly, Sri Lanka troops deployed on overseas assignments with unconditional positive regard for the children organized special children’s day programmes.

For example, the 8th Contingent of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC), United Nations Peace-Keeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) serving the Level-2 SRIMED Hospital, conducted a school accessories distribution programme to the children at Internally Displaced People camp in Bor. During this special children’s day programme, kids of the IDP centre received books and writing materials from the Sri Lanka Army, blue helmet peacekeepers with motherly and fatherly care.

The programme was led by Lieutenant Colonel N.M. Niflar, Commanding Officer SRIMED Level 2 Hospital in South Sudan, with the assistance of the Civil-Military Coordination Section of UNMISS.

Sri Lanka Army Peacekeepers are in on and off foreign missions, including the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS), the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).Except above Missions, more Army personnel are on international assignments as Military Observers and staff officers. All those missions are strengthening the country’s national economy and foreign reserves. To date, Sri Lanka Army blue helmets contributed 285 Million USD to the National Economy as unsung heroes.
